Garth Brooks will be honored with the Library of Congress's 2020 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which is given to a living musician who enhances cultural understanding and inspires new generations through music.

“An award is only as good as the names on it,” Garth said in a statement. “First off, for any musician, the name Gershwin says it all. Add to Ira’s and George’s names the names of the past recipients, and you have an award of the highest honor. I am truly humbled."

Garth will receive the honor at an all-star tribute concert in Washington D.C. taking place in March and airing at a later date on PBS.

  • Previous Gershwin Prize winners include Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett and more.
