Lil Nas X released a remix of his viral smash “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus on Friday and it’s already a hit. The tune jumped up to number one not only the iTunes pop chart, but the iTunes country chart, and now it may have a shot at more country charts in the coming weeks.
As we told you, after the original started climbing the country chart "Billboard" pulled it, saying it “does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music,” which sparked backlash, with many crying racism.
Well, now there’s a chance “Billboard” may change its mind. According to Mediabase, 33 radio stations played “Old Town Road” last week, and with Cyrus signing on that number may get bigger. The mag now says it is still figuring out how to classify the tune, and tells "Rolling Stone," their decision to remove it from the Hot Country Songs chart, “could be revisited.”
