As we previously told you, Thomas Rhett recently released the star-studded single “Be A Light,” featuring Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, and Chris Tomlin. And while the song is perfectly suited for what’s going on today, Thomas actually wrote it last year.

Thomas says he was inspired to write the song after witnessing a ton of hate and negativity on social media. “It drove me nuts,” he shares. “ And I think at this point in time, I was like, man instead of like addressing the meanness and the negativity, why don’t we just address for people just to be kind.”

As for why he finally decided to release the tune now, he notes, “I just feel like the world was in darkness for a minute, and so I think a song like this can be really encouraging for people.”

Proceeds from the song are going to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, which will help artists affected by the shutdown of the touring industry. Thomas says, “So, not only is this song kind of a light in a little bit of a dark time, but it’s also kinda helping the people that have been directly affected in my world.”
