“Real Country” Recap

It was week two on USA’s “Real Country,” and after Copper Chief won last week, three new artists were on board to try and earn their spot into the finale, with tonight’s episode featuring a special appearance by Wynonna. 

This week’s episode featured songs about hitting the road. Round one performers included: 

• Scooter Brown (Travis Tritt’s pick) – A former Marine and father of four, who described himself as a little country and a little rock and roll. He performed Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See.” Travis, of course, loved it, joking “if you were stock I’d be buying a lot of it,” with Jake adding “you killed it.” He scored 4.3 stars.

• Savannah Keyes (Jake Owen’s pick) – Savannah was invited to perform on the “Ellen” show when she was young, and then moved to Nashville at 16. She sang “Merry Go Round” by Kacey Musgraves. Jake called her a “star,” with Travis saying her personality reminded him of a “young Dolly Parton.” She scored 3.9 stars.

• Kylie Frey (Shania Twain’s pick)– A rodeo gal who at a young age said she ”wanted to be Shania Twain.” Shania called her a “strong, independent crazy talent.” She sang the Dixie Chicks’ “Wide Open Spaces.” Travis said her performance was “really good,” with Jake adding that she did a “great job.” She scored 4.0 stars.

Savannah Keyes didn’t make it to the second round (interestingly the second week Jake’s pick didn’t make it). Round two brought in Wynonna as the guest judge. Round two performances included:

• Scooter Brown - His second pick was the Allman Brothers Band’s“Ramblin’ Man,” with Travis noting, “you remind me so much of me.” Wynonna added that he was “real,” with Shania thought he was “sincere.” He scored 4.2 stars. 

• Kylie Frey - Her second song was “Break Down Here” by Julie Roberts, with Shania saying it felt like she sang the song “like you wrote it yourself,” and Travis called it “fantastic.” Meanwhile Wynona said she was “one step away from absolutely being in my soul.” She scored 4.5 stars.
