Willie Nelson was honored earlier this week for his “artistic achievements and creative genius” by the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing.
Several artists were on hand to celebrate Willie, including Kacey Musgraves who said of the singer, “He has this really unique ability to unite and really bring people together. It’s unlike any artist I can think of,” adding, “Underdogs, outliers, Republicans, rappers, presidents. Everyone loves Willie.”
There were also some performances in celebration of the guest of honor, with Willie’s sons Michah and Lukas Nelson joining him for the 1986 tune “Living in the Promiseland,” along with Dave Matthews, who also joined Lukas for “Crazy.” The night also featured a sing-along of Willie’s classic “On The Road Again.”
“It’s an honor. I want to thank the producers and engineers over the years for making me sound as good as they could,” Willie noted in accepting his honor. “And I’m glad they liked me because they could have really screwed me up. But again, thanks to all of y’all and I’m glad to be here. Thank you.” Check out some of the performances below.
